Surprise calf on a Sunday morning

01:42

I'm just here at the cow shed. When I got here, there was a new calf that looks like it's only been born in the past half an hour, maybe hour. The mum is still cleaning it up, so I just took a quick picture to send to Phil, the farmer, to let him know. But I'm just leaving her now to get used to her new calf, to feed it, and to get it all cleaned up.

So I'm just standing, oh, you're looking at me now, aren't you? Hey, Mr. Toffee! Just standing at the other end of the cow shed, and I'm just looking at Toffee and Nutmeg. These were calves one and two, and they're enjoying lying down in the sunshine. That sun's got a little bit of heat in it this morning, but they're very contented, and I think they're putting weight on now.

You can hear the new mum; she's making a few noises. She's still got to deliver the afterbirth, so I think that's what's going on at the moment. But yeah, we've been waiting a while for these other two to deliver, so yeah, you never know when you come down whether there'll be a calf or not. So yeah, lovely surprise on a Sunday morning.
