Good morning from the paddock. It's quite breezy this morning so I'm not sure exactly how this will record but we'll give it a go.
So I'm standing in the paddock which is a field and this is where a lot of the sheep will come before they start lambing. We have lambs in here when they're being weaned. What else have we had? Oh we've had some cows in here as well. So yeah it's sort of the closest field to the farm and where you can keep an eye on things.
It's empty at the minute but there will be some sheep coming. Where are we now? Probably imminently actually. The pregnant ewes who are due to lamb from mid-April, they'll be coming in here first and because the weather's getting a lot better most of those will probably lamb outside. Some of them might come into the shed but the majority of them will lamb on their own. So this area will be filled with lots of little lambs all running about which is going to be amazing.
So today it's quite quiet on the farm. We've got three sheep in the shed. They're sheep that just need a bit of TLC at the minute and we've got the two calves, their mums and then the other two pregnant cows who aren't showing any signs of delivering right now. And yeah it's just very peaceful and quiet. Lots of bird noise. There's a pheasant in the next field but yeah they come before the storm as they say. It's a lovely day. Lots of daffodils out. I've spotted a lot of blossom on the way here. Blue skies so hopefully it's going to be a really nice day.
So yeah I just thought I would stand in the field and record a voice note just because I can and hopefully I'll be able to stand here again in the next few weeks and tell you that there's lots of little lambs running around and lots of new life and yeah this is going to be transformed. Right now it's just empty but I'm not sure how many sheep we've got coming in but it's been a bit more than in January so I think it's going to be quite busy but I can't wait, I really can't wait to do some more lambing.
I've been watching a guy I think he's called Tom the Farmer, Dale's Farmer on Instagram and he's been sharing a lot of his behind the scenes of lambing and I've learned quite a lot from him as well. Lots of different techniques and ways of fostering lambs onto a different mule and all sorts of stuff but yeah every time I watch his videos or any videos of someone else who's already lambing now I just think oh I wish we were lambing but yeah not long now it will soon come.
So wishing you a great day if you're out and it's lovely like this then enjoy the sunshine and yeah get a bit of sun on your face.
